Lakers President Jeanie Buss Tweets a Great Point About Gender Bias Against SuperGirl

Jeanie Buss sees right through your bunk power rankings, Entertainment Weekly. Just like SuperGirl.

@EW Can you explain why #Superman gets 9.7rating for powers and #Supergirl only gets 8.3? Powers are same. #GenderBias ? https://t.co/qdrV2skfMv

Lakers President Jeanie Buss is out here on a Friday afternoon, patrolling Twitter, keeping close tabs on stats, as NBA presidents are wont to do. And then she noticed an unfair discrepancy in power rankings and tweeted her beef directly to the source. Except these aren't NBA power rankings we're talking about—they're super hero rankings, as put out by Entertainment Weekly.

We've got Superman—indisputably one of the best superheroes of all time, for sure. Man of Steel—he's got amazing powers to melt things by looking at them, he only needs the sun to recharge, and has only one super-hard-to-find weakness. He's understandably ranked at 9.7 in terms of super powers. But what about Supergirl? Obviously, his equal counterpart; she's got the same shit going on. Krypton-type business. But wait? A measley 8.3?

If that ratio of discrimination, set out by EW, seems familiar, that's because it is. A popular study came out in this past year, highlighting the fact that white women make around 80 cents to each dollar that white men make (with things are much worse for women of color). But seeing as how Supergirl and Superman are typically depicted as white, let's just go with that.

According to one simple math equation, 8.3 is 77.6 percent of 9.7. That means we're just 2.4 percent away from the actual wage gap in America, people. Jeanie is keeping tabs—and rightfully so. She sees right through you, EW. Just like SuperGirl.
