If anything captures the public’s imagination, it might just be light art, which can assume a myriad of shapes, scales, colors and forms. Some astonish us by turning natural topographies into minimal art, while others are a bit more dystopian, making us question our dependence on communication devices. Whatever the concept and presentation, this year’s light art installations were ambitious, unique and very often inspiring.

This is the Year in Light Art:

+ A massive LED star inside a half-finished building illuminated Malaysia.

+ The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston brought Latin American light artists out of the dark with the exhibition Cosmic Dialogues: Selections from the Latin American Collection.
