Viral Style: David Lynch's Fashion Line, Real-Time Selfie Makeovers, And Tech-Enabled Tattoos

Viral Style #60 is a rather Lynchian affair.

CULT DIRECTOR-DESIGNED SPORTSWEAR OF THE WEEK

Okay, here’s one we didn’t see coming. This week, it was revealed that David Lynch is launching a new project… in women’s sportswear. American label Live The Process is teaming up with the David Lynch Foundation on an exclusive new capsule collection, consisting of scoop bras, T-shirts, shorts, and leggings. Created with limited-edition floral and geometric prints, the understated yet progressive designs fit LTP’s brand ethos of wellness and balance to a T. What’s more, part of the proceeds go towards helping victims of abuse. Plus, we can guess this garb goes well with a solid cuppa Joe, or, you know, some mundane-grotesque-supernatural happening.

TECH-ENABLED TATTOOS OF THE WEEK

Ever been tempted to get some ink done? Even if you’ve been too chicken to go under the needle up until now, there’s a new type of tatt on the market that even your mum might approve of. Motorola has joined forces with Californian company VivaLnk on a new range of digital tattoos that have the capability to unlock smartphones.

Crafted out of ultra-thin plastic, a circuit and NFC chip, the small, shiny transfer is stuck to the wrist, using medical grade adhesive that will survive showering, swimming and sports for up to five days. Users simply swipe their phone over the patch to unlock it. Looks pretty cool, but it seems debatable how much time you’d actually save over just unlocking the phone with your finger…

#MUSTHAVE FOOTWEAR OF THE WEEK

Sneaker freakers everywhere are currently going crazy for the news of adidas’ latest product launch, the 30th anniversary re-issue of the adidas Originals OG Micropacer model. Back when the shoe was first released in 1984, the Micropacer was seen as a hugely advanced design in sports footwear, combining a slick silver surface with a miniature built-in LCD microcomputer on the left tongue. The device can record distance covered, calorie expenditure and the wearer’s average pace/time – you just know Marty McFly would have been all over these back in ’84.

SMARTWATCH ACCESSORY OF THE WEEK

An Indiegogo-funded project called Ritot is promising to change the smartwatch game with the world’s first projection capabilities. A slim contemporary watch design projects its face straight onto your wrist, whether it’s the time, text messages, social media alerts, emails…. The list goes on. Seen your notification? A shake of the wrist and it’s gone. You can select from 20 different colours for the projection itself, and the watch Is also waterproof—the project page also states, quite explicitly, that the accessory is “absolutely safe for your skin and health," which is always reassuring to hear.

REAL-TIME SELFIE MAKEOVER OF THE WEEK

You heard it here first; selfies have just gone next-gen. New York-based company ModiFace have just launched an advanced new app that allows users to give themselves a virtual makeover through facial recognition technology, meaning you can alter your on-screen appearance in real time. Beauty Mirror for iOS effectively works as a smartphone mirror, using live 3D face tracking to customise factors like skin, weight and eye size with photoreal effects. The finished image can then be saved as a picture or recorded as a video, so you can show off your digital transformation to all your followers on social media. Cheaper than getting an IRL makeover, I guess.

HIGH FASHION RIDE OF THE WEEK

Iconic car brand Cadillac is sponsoring 2014’s New York Men’s Day fashion show for the second year running, and has enlisted 10 designers to each put their own creative spin on the new 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupes model. Participating names include BespokenDavid Hart and Original Penguin, with design highlights ranging from photoreal car graphics to colourful hazy cartoons. You can even vote for your favourite look on Cadillac’s Facebook page – the winning #StyleDriven design will be applied to a real-life ATS Coupes and revealed at NYMD on September 3rd.
