The Catch That Wasn't, a Soccer Ball to the Face, and the GIFs You Missed

You missed a lot this weekend, but we were here chronicling it all for you because it's our job and we like food and shelter. So, please, enjoy!

The weekend in sports was a good one. We had two solid days of NFL games, soccer shenanigans, Hannah Storm valiantly shoving an underling, and Oompa Loompas wreaking havoc in a slightly less creepy way than you remember from the film. We've got it all here for you in one place, so scroll away.

The Play Everyone is Talking About

The downside to high definition cameras, TVs, and slow motion replay is the micromanaging that springs forth. We can see so much of every tiny, formerly insignificant movement that the question "what is a catch?" becomes nearly unanswerable without qualification. So, we have the process of the catch rule to help out, and guess what? It's not perfect. This was a catch, every single person who watched that game knows this was a catch, but the rule says that it wasn't, so it's not.

Chaos at Australian Darts Event

How does this happen? Why does this happen? There are many questions this clip calls to mind, but the one that always sticks is: how are there so many people watching a live darts event?

Trevor Booker Catapults Ball in Before Buzzer

You'll notice that I did not write "Trevor Booker shoots…" because if we start calling this a "shot" it's a slippery slope to anarchy, and no one wants that. Still, this play is incredible and worthy of highlighting, just not worthy of amending Funk & Wagnalls.

Gary Clark Posterized Ryan Boatright

The lesson here is: never try. You will lose.

DIck Vitale's Shoutout to Stu Scott

Dickie V. was uncharacteristically quiet immediately following UNC's big win over Louisville, but then he let loose a string of Booyah"s in honor of the veteran ESPN anchor on the same day of his funeral in Raleigh.

Pylon Cam is Pretty Neat

ESPN debuted Pylon Cam this weekend (in the FCS Championship, but whatever) and it looks promising, both in terms of new, exciting angles, and being actually useful.

Julian Edelman Throws 51-Yard TD

Julian Edelman played quarterback in college so this wasn't totally out of the blue, but it was also Edelman's first ever pass attempt in the NFL, so it kind of was out of the blue.

Bizarre End of the Half In Seattle

Kam Chancellor nearly blocked two field goals by jumping over the line and getting right in the face of the kicker. The first one went through the uprights, but was called back on an offensive penalty. The second sailed wide, but Chancellor was called for running into the kicker. The third finally went in.

After the game, Lynch was very thankful, but we were all thankful in real time. Because Marshawn Lynch is the best, holding his nuts and waving from the sidelines.

Right in the Face!

If there ever comes a time when you don't enjoy people getting hit in the face or private parts with a ball, hand in your ethernet cable and wireless password. You're done.

Totti Scores Dazzling Goal, Takes Selfie

My man is 38 years old and is still flying through the air for a karate kick goal, keeping up on the latest youth fads.

Hannah Storm Stiff Arm

Storm said she did it to save the makeup artist from getting in trouble, which makes a lot of sense. That look, though.

I mean, come on. Have some self awareness, man.

Aaron Rodgers is Nasty

This is just a crazy-good throw. Rodgers was hobbled by a calf muscle injury, and was able to move around enough to buy some time and space to fire this laser through the tiniest of windows to the back of the end zone. It's damn fun watching good football players play football well.
