Next Hype: wordlife + Remix Premiere

wordlife (yes, lowercase) gives us worldly wisdom and a Doc Daneeka remix.

Wordlife is two clever bearded Aussies living in Sydney. They make forward-thinking dance music without flying any particular genre flag. Barney, also known as Kato, is a veteran of the Australian dance music scene with a regular show on FBi radio, several well known club nights, and releases and remixes on Bang Gang, Yes Yes and 12 inches. Adam has released on Top Billin, Moveltraxx, Dim Mak, Southern Fried and more. These guys have been around, and their experience shows.

The duo released their Small Talk / Breakthrough EP this week on Club Mod, Modular's dance floor-oriented sublabel, and they have given us their Doc Daneeka remix to premiere. Put this on your 4th of July afterparty soundtrack and get to know wordlife (who insist that their name appear in lowercase) below.

Whats your name?
wordlife. It's our policy not to capitalize on the "w."

Where are you from?
Adam is from the Shire (in Australia that's more about surfers than hobbits though) and Barney is from Newcastle (two hours north of Sydney—bogan hipster paradise).

How old are you?
Combined age of just under sixty-nine but we decided to round up.

One line about your hometown?
We have amazing accents MATE!

What did the first ever track you made sound like and what was it inspired by?
It was called "Strictly Riddim"—it had a dancehall sample and was influenced by UK Bass music like garage and early dubstep before it was discovered by the Americas.

How did you get your name?
It's an old rap lyric from a track by a dude called O.C., and Prince also says it in the intro to one of the greatest songs of all time, "Let's Get Crazy."

What labels do you record for?
Club Mod take more of our sexual house music, Motorik are Sydney techno gangsters and So Solid as you can imagine are on more of a UK tip but unfortunately aren't related to the So Solid Crew. There are also heaps of free downloads on our Soundcloud because we make too much music.

Who is your best friend that also does music and what are they like?
The Motorik Vibe Council (The Finger Prince, CSMNT61 and ViVi). They are a bunch of naughty boys who make dirty techno, run sexy underground parties, DJ like demons and owe us money.

Other than a club or a house, whats the best environment to hear your music (real or imagined)?
A jungle rave in an actual jungle though—but Goldie is definitely invited. You also need (in no particular order) beanbags, baby oil, multiple hot tubs, the girls from the Crazy Horse and a light sprinkle of rain for 5 minutes at 2:35 in the morning.

What is your favorite sound (or sounds) right now?
The Sound Pellegrino SND.PE 01 compilation is a must-listen. Fuck what anyone else thinks. We also love Yeezus, anything Four Tet does, The Night Slugs / Fade To Mind movement and this dude called RP BOO I just came across last night who does footwork with amazing original vocals.

Name three non-musical inspirations.
Real jobs, the magazines I read as a kid before the internet, the Pyramids.

Who is one up-and-coming artist you think we should look out for and why?
Club Cheval are a group of Frenchmen (Myd, Canblaster, Sam Tiba and Panteros666) who are as talented as they are nutty.

What's next for you?
We've been working on a collab recently with Daniel Merriwether which has been pretty amazing so hopefully more of that and some work with other new vocalists and definitely more music for dark dirty clubs that don't have table service.
