Classic House Pioneers Shades of Rhythm Made Us a Masterful Guest Mix

If you consider yourself a classic house connoisseur, you surely remember the British trio Shades of Rhythm. Responsible for some club seminal anthems like "The Sound of Eden" and the Stephanie Mills-sampling belter "Sweet Sensation," the Peterborough group was an important part of the UK rave's early 90s lineage, as well as the organizers of the essential London house party night, House is a feeling.

Some of the first to push classic and acidic house music through speaker system's throughout England's capital, the group is bringing some nostalgia back into the city with the return of their beloved party next month, where they'll be performing their live set alongside Alex P, Brandon Block and Nicky Holloway, as part of an all-night showcase in Camden.

To get everyone prepped for the party, the guys sent over Volume 1 of their Loves, Doves, and Hugs Mixtape, which is bubbling with the pure blissful sounds of icons like Joey Beltram, Marshall Jefferson, Steve Silk Hurley, and a slew of other producers that make up the curriculum of House Music 101.

Check out what Shades of Rhythm had to say about the mix, the vibe of which they hope to recreate during their party at At Proud Camden in London on November 20:

"We wanted to do a Retro DJ mix combining some of the house tunes that we were into before breaks influenced that early 90's rave sound that we became known for. We originate from Peterborough and back then, there was a clear North/South divide when it came to club music from '91 to '93 and we were slap bang in the middle. The South soaked up the rolling break beats while the North loved their 4x4 kick and uplifting riffs. We wanted to do a mix pre-'91 where you could go to a Rave and hear house music from all over Europe and the rest of the world."
