One hundred and thirty five years ago today, Alexander Graham Bell made the first successful telephone call. “’Mr. Watson—come here—I want to see you,” he told his assistant, who was in the next room.

I’m currently uncomfortably seated on an Airtran flight heading to my first South by Southwest conference, and I’m writing to you ON THE INTERNET. IN THE SKY.

I am literally flying into the future.

Yeah, I know: in-flight wi-fi has been around for awhile now, but it’s a novelty to me. That’s not to say it’s great—The Hype Machine keeps cutting off, even right in the middle of a Naughty By Nature song.

Wait. Why am I bitching. I’M ON THE INTERNET ON A PLANE.

(But because I’m on a beta Google Chrome netbook, I can’t manage to take a photo to prove it. Sheesh. I know I’m in coach but what do I have to do to get the future around here?)

P.S.

If you’ll be at SXSW, come see the panel I’m on, Know Your Meme, Saturday at 3.30.
