Joe Maddon Wore the Same Stinky Socks Every Day During the Cubs Winning Streak

Joe Maddon wore the same socks for nearly two weeks without washing them. This is a gross thing to do.

Before losing to Chris Sale and the White Sox yesterday, the last time Joe Maddon washed his socks was on August 5th. Today is August 17th. That's almost two full weeks of walking around in the same gross-ass socks every day.

"I'll concede to one thing," Maddon said Sunday morning. "I've worn the same socks for many days to and from the ballpark. They're Camo Socks."

I don't want to go around telling Joe Maddon how to do his job or anything—he's obviously a very successful MLB manager, and I am just a guy who blogs and wears clean socks every day—but maybe re-think your superstition game a little bit. Grow a beard, say. Or eat the same breakfast during a streak. Maybe listen to Robert Tepper's "There's No Easy Way Out" on your way to the ballpark every day. Point is, there are plenty of perfectly hygienic superstitions or, to borrow Maddon's reference, littlestitions one can indulge to keep that good mojo going.

"It absorbs sweat really well, so it's not awful," Maddon joked.

This…this is not helping. I don't want to think about Joe Maddon's feet, and I certainly don't want to think about his feet sweating in the same disgusting socks for 12 days and how "it's not awful" because the socks are absorbent. Imagine literally any other job in the world, and the boss says "We've had a good couple weeks here during which I have not changed or washed my socks. It's fine, though, they absorb sweat really well. OK! Let's go get 'em today, folks. Gary, get me that memo by three o'clock, yeah?" That boss would be forced to take a vacation, at least. At worst, he would be fired for being deranged.

What I'm saying is, just listen to "There's No Easy Way Out" every day. It's a good song that doesn't smell or incubate bacteria.
