Psychic Land: A Video Game-Like Short Film

Argentinean design agency gets inspiration from the world of games and releases animated short film.

Psychic Land is a vintage video game inspired animation depicting a town that’s trying its best to fend off a giant purple blob with a face that has an appetite for urban structures. To populate this little burg, Argentinian studio 2veinte created a cast of monsters that somewhat resemble the dudes from Pacman with the colors and shapes of Katamari Damacy.

This reminds us a little of our Korean Creators Sticky Monster Lab, with their crazy, emotive little creatures.

Director Pablo Gostanian conceived the project out of a desire to try out characters and shapes without having a concrete end result in mind. "The first thing to come up was the geometric shapes, then we drew our first character. After characters, we started with the buildings, and in the beginning we didn't have a very defined path. The plot came from a process of taking ideas to a script that wasn't written yet. When we started to draw, the script came along," says Gostanian about the project's creative process.

The production team consisted of four people who got together nearly every day to create new drawings by hand, getting a little help from Illustrator, Cinema 4D, and After Effects to digitize and animate them. It took them almost three months to finish the film. After it was all wrapped up, the work got one final vintage game detail, a soundtrack inspired by '80s and '90s games, created by Lucas Totino.
