CeeLo Green Isn't Dead, He Just Wants to Sell You Shit

That video of his phone exploding in his face was actually a clip from “a new project” he’s working on.

CeeLo Green, singer of two songs you know and judge on a TV talent show, is in no mortal danger this morning despite a video circulating yesterday that appeared to show his phone exploding in his face. According to a Instagram video that he ran this morning, the apparent CCTV footage, showing Green falling off of a chair unconscious, was in fact part of a "new project" that he's working on. Oh, and he maybe has new music on the way or something.

The original footage, which you can see below, appeared to show Green at work in the studio, picking up his phone and having a brief conversation before the thing explodes in his face, knocking him to the floor. It cut before Green regained consciousness. The thing came with no context whatsoever, so it's bizarre that Green is so shocked by the concern of his fans this morning.

"I just want to let everyone know that I am alive and well, and I'm OK," he said before apologizing to anyone who came to the very reasonable conclusion that he might be dead or dying.

If you want to know what project Green was teasing with this half-baked snuff show--and Lord only knows why you would--go ahead and type the man's name into your search engine of choice. There's a small chance that Green really had absolutely no idea that a contextless video of his possible death would have no impact on anyone at all. There's a much bigger chance that he's convinced folks he's in real trouble in order to tease new music.

It's competitive out there, what with all the young musicians releasing their music in new and creative ways. Letting people think you're dead for a few hours to get some attention, particularly when you have a huge audience already, is a cheap and exploitative way to circumvent that.
