Two imitation English Heritage blue plaques appeared outside foreign secretary Boris Johnson's house over the weekend, labelling the Tory politician a "destroyer of cosmopolitan unity and passer of buck". The plaque referenced Johnson's role in the EU referendum's Leave campaign, and what critics considered his backtracking on campaign promises after the result was announced.

The signs were designed in the style of London's English Heritage blue plaques, which mark more than 900 buildings around the capital with information on their links to notable figures from the past.

"Boris has destroyed my city as an act of callous arrogance," an anonymous source said to the Metro, claiming responsibility for the plaques. "People's lives are going to be seriously messed up because he thought it was the best way to become prime minister. If that's not callous, I don't know what is."

Motorists trying to get to France via Dover ended up caught in long, snaking queues from Friday, with delays of between 10 and 14 hours before the situation eased up on Sunday.

The delays had been caused by a combination of a "vast volume of holiday traffic" and French border controls implementing more thorough searches and checks, in the wake of the terrorist attack in Nice on Bastille Day, according to the police.

But Dover Port authorities deemed French border police understaffing as responsible for the delays. Those stuck also joked about the delays being a French revenge for Brexit, claims quashed by Conservative party chairman Patrick McLoughlin on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show. As of Sunday evening, delays had "decreased significantly", according to the Port of Dover.

Two women were in hospital on Sunday in Weymouth, after falling ill when they had reportedly taken a drug known as Golden Monkey.

According to a Dorset police press release, a 19-year-old woman and 20-year-old woman were seriously ill on Sunday morning after taking the drug.

"We want to warn members of the public of the dangers of taking such drugs as anyone consuming them could be putting their health and even their life in serious danger," said Dorset Police Chief Inspector Jim Beashel. "I would strongly advise those thinking of taking such substances to think again. You can't be sure what you're taking and the side-effects are unpredictable and potentially life-threatening."

An 18-year-old gunman killed nine people in Munich before shooting himself on Friday evening, in the third attack to hit Germany in a week.

Identified as Ali Sonboly, the shooter in Munich had allegedly lured people to the McDonald's with a Facebook post promising cheap food – posted under a young woman's hacked profile – before killing nine people and injuring 27.

Sonboly acted alone and had no connections to ISIS, police officials said during a press conference, and was found to have researched school shootings. He had been born in Munich, to Iranian parents.

Previously this week, an Afghan teenager attacked passengers on a train in Bavaria with an axe before he was shot dead by the police, and on Sunday evening one woman was killed and two other people injured by a man wielding a machete in Stuttgart.
