Here's the 'Rogue One' Trailer but Don't Get Too Excited

Everything we've seen from teasers and trailers make the movie look like superb, but can we trust them?

During the Olympics broadcast Thursday night, NBC aired the first full trailer for Rogue One, the next in a seemingly endless line of upcoming Star Wars franchise films. Rogue One is kind of like Episode 3.5—it centers around the plot to steal the Death Star plans that are the MacGuffin in A New Hope.

The two minute-plus trailer looks, like the teasers before it, incredible. It's grittier and more diverse than anything we've seen in the Star Wars universe thus far, and there are even some spooky, new black ops Stormtroopers. The trailer ends with a mercilessly short shot of Vader for good measure.

There's a lot to get excited about. But can we even trust trailers in our post-Suicide Squad world? The trailer for the latest DC disaster seemed fantastic, and then the movie came along and we realized that it was nothing more than a limp, tonally incongruent mess.

Everything we've seen from Rogue One teasers and trailers makes the movie look superb, but can we trust anything anymore? We'll have to wait until December to find out.

Rogue One hits theaters December 16.
