Jimmy Barnes Owned the ARIAs

Gang of Youths may have won Album of the Year, but the ARIAs belonged to rocker Jimmy Barnes. After attending a funeral earlier in the day to farewell his friend and AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young, Barnsey headed to the music awards where he picked up Best Kids Album and closed out the night with a powerhouse performance of AC/DC’s “High Voltage” in tribute to Young. He also presented his friend Daryl Braithwaite to the ARIA Hall of Fame.

With his first ARIA award since 1992, Barnsey beat the Wiggles for Best Children’s Album for Och Aye the G’Nu. He furthered his awesomeness by accepting the award wearing a kilt and accompanied by his grandson Dylan. Dylan, you lucky bastard. You are one of only a few people in this world able to say "Barnsey is my grandad."

Barnes performed a barnstorming version of AC/DC's classic hit "High Voltage" in honour of Malcolm and his older brother, Easybeats songwriter George Young, who died earlier this month.

To be honest, we don’t know too much about Gang of Youths except to say that we hope we’re not around in 30 years when one of them takes the ARIA stage to pay tribute to someone from Ball Park Music.
