SCOTUS cases you should be paying close attention to

Back in session with a full bench after the months-long bitter political battle filling the seat that finally went to Neil Gorsuch last April, the Supreme Court’s upcoming docket is jam-packed with cases that could have huge impacts on American law — without the risk of a 4-4 tie.

The court kicked off the second day of its fall term Tuesday with Gill v. Whitford, which could reconfigure American elections by deciding whether gerrymandering, the practice of redrawing districts for political gain, is unconstitutional.

In addition to Gill, the justices will hear arguments that could decide the future of search and seizure in the technology age, if immigrants detained by ICE deserve bail hearings, and whether employee contracts that prohibit class action suits against employers violate federal collective bargaining rights.
