People Want Priyanka Chopra to Play a 16-Year-Old Pakistani American Marvel Superhero

Earlier this week Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced a Ms. Marvel movie is "definitely sort of in the works." This will supposedly follow the introduction of Brie Larson-starring Captain Marvel in 2019, a new character in the MCU who is predicted to play a game-changing role following Avengers Infinity War.

Despite this being the vaguest announcement possible, fandom has already lost its collective mind over who could play the 16-year-old Pakistani-American Kamala Khan.

Twitter is already up in arms over the fancasting of Priyanka Chopra, who voiced Khan in the 2016 mobile video game Marvel: Avengers Academy. Chopra referred to the character as her alter-ego which just adds weight to the squeeing.

The worldwide success of Black Panther has brought home just how important, and lucrative representation is. Khan—created in 2012 by Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, G. Willow Wilson and Adrian Alphona—is Marvel's first Muslim character to headline her own comic book. Set in Jersey City, Khan is a shapeshifter who balances high school, her orthodox parents and superhero-ing. The first volume of the series won a Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story in 2015.
