Jakarta Police Raid Another 'Gay Spa' as LGBTQ Crackdown Continues
Police in Central Jakarta raided another "gay spa" over the weekend, briefly detaining more than 50 men and charging several others with violating the country's vague anti-pornography laws. We wrote about this law in the past, explaining how it is being used today as a tool in an ongoing battle by authorities to conduct sweeps of hotels, nightclubs, and saunas. The sweeps, and the law itself, have come under repeated fire from rights groups who see the raids as a clear sign of discrimination against a vulnerable group. "If they raided (this club) because they are gay, it is abusive, it is abuse of power," said Andreas Harsono, an Indonesia researcher at Human Rights Watch. —The Guardian

Indonesian Scientist in the Netherlands Caught Faking Impressive Achievements
Dwi Hartanto claimed to be an accomplished aerospace engineer who had ongoing projects with the European Space Agency (ESA), NASA, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin. But none of this was true. His series of lies, dating back from 2015, even earned him an award from the Indonesian Embassy in Den Haag, which has since been revoked as his real story unfolded. Indonesian alumni of Delft University of Technology secretly investigated Hartanto, with the help of the Indonesian Student Association in Delft and International Association of Indonesian Scientists. The US mission in Turkey, then followed by the Turkish mission in Washington D.C., have suspended visa services after a US consulate employee was arrested in Istanbul on charges of links to a cleric blamed for last year's coup. The US mission in Ankara said in a statement, "In order to minimize the number of visitors to our embassy and consulates while this assessment proceeds, effective immediately we have suspended all non-immigrant visa services at all US diplomatic facilities in Turkey."
