Neko Case's music critiques will make you hungry

Like many people, American indie rock singer-songwriter Neko Case isn't a trained musician. But she knows food.

Like many people, American indie rock singer-songwriter Neko Case isn't a trained musician. But she knows food.

"Everyone understands food," Case said. "I can't say like, 'Oh well you know that particular bridge with the descending whatever comes in.'"

Case, known for her solo career and contributions as a member of Canadian indie rock group, The New Pornographers, sat down as this month's Music Critic, and that means dessert analogies.

After listening to Beach House's, "Black Car," Case compared the lead vocals to caramel, and a car door sound effect in the song to a "bit of salt on the caramel, up there around the chocolate. It's great."

Neko Case also did a sampling of Jennifer Hudson's "I'll Fight," Jean-Michel Blais' "dans ma main," and Leon Bridges' "Forgive You."

Case is set to release her first solo LP in five years, "Hell-On," in June.
