Right now, Lil Yachty is in a league of his own in terms of general carefreeness, and increasingly, that massive individuality is seeping into his music too. The proponent of "bubblegum trap" has moved even further into the bubblegum end of that territory on his newest release "Bring It Back," which is a sincere, mid-tempo bop about missing someone you love. It features an Auto-Tuned Yachty almost singing in some parts, and its bouncy instrumental is more reminiscent of someone like Carly Rae Jepsen or (one for the heads here) throwback powerpop act Hellogoodbye than his peers in rap and hip-hop.In Lil Yachty, we have a fearless artist embracing all sides of himself, leaning into all of his musical interests rather than being restricted by genre, and creating music that is all the better for it. "Bring It Back" is great partly because of its sweetness, but also because it's such a surprise – this is, by all intents and purposes, a pop song, and it's a really, really good one.As we've seen, Lil Boat is pretty comfortable in a tux, and that combined with his status as King of the Teens (in case you somehow haven't heard, he's even called his album, due 26 May, Teenage Emotions) means that the prom-themed video, complete with balloons and bow ties, is extremely apt.Watch above, and struggle to turn this off for the rest of the day, imo.Follow Lauren on Twitter.(Image via YouTube)
