These are some of the reasons why Madeline Priest, vocalist of X priest X, has been hyped as the next Grimes. Which is about halfway true. Because while the two ladies might share the same ear for woeful pop, X priest X is like Grimes for the lavender cupcake set—softer, kinder, and less inclined to freak out in the desert with Brooke Candy. "Samurai" is the first single by Madeline and her accomplices (producer Dave Kazyk and Chandler Strang of the dream-pop outfit Saskatchewan)—but judging from the way they blew up the Internet, this debut might as well have been a fucking quinceañera.
