This Canadian CEO is Housing and Offering Jobs to 58 Syrian Refugee Families

Canadians are opening their doors to the very people US President Donald Trump is shutting out.

This segment originally aired Feb. 8, 2017, on VICE News Tonight on HBO.

After US President Donald Trump announced an indefinite ban on Syrian refugees in January, the prime minister of Canada announced that his country would be happy to take them in. In fact, many Canadian citizens have already taken it upon themselves to make good on the prime minister's promise.

Jim Estill, CEO of Ontario-based appliance company Danby, is going to extraordinary lengths to help people resettle. Estill, one of hundreds of Canadians who have offered to privately sponsor Syrian refugees, has already allocated $1.5 million to pay rent and expenses for 58 Syrian refugee families.

But his efforts don't stop there; Estill is giving jobs to these refugees as well. In fact, 16 of the 150 people who work at the Danby warehouse are Syrian refugees.
