Rafael Nadal held a press conference today to announce that he is taking a break from tennis while dealing with a severe wrist injury, according to the BBC. His withdrawal consequently ends his run at the French Open, and puts his appearance at Wimbledon—starting July 7—in question.

Nadal revealed that he played yesterday with a pain injection, and woke up unable to move his wrist. He said that while his wrist isn't broken, he felt that it was only a matter of time until it was, unless he took a break. This is all after the nine-time French Open champion advanced to the third round with a straight-sets win over Facundo Bagnis yesterday, and after executing a mind-blowing tweener three days ago. Nadal's announcement came a day before he was scheduled to face Marcel Granollers.
