The domestic battery charge against Trailer Park Boys actor Mike Smith has been dropped due to a "lack of sufficient evidence."

Smith, who plays Bubbles on the show, was arrested in Los Angeles last month following a fight with his friend Georgia Ling in a hotel bathroom. He was accused of choking Ling, according to media reports, and was released on $20,000 bail.

Both Smith and Ling released statements saying that while they did get into an argument, Smith did not physically assault Ling. The controversy prompted Smith's co-star Lucy DeCoutere, who was one of the complainants in Jian Ghomeshi's sex assault trial, to announce she was quitting the show.

According to the CBC, the Los Angeles City Attorney's office said Monday the misdemeanor charge against Smith has been dropped.
