Flying Lotus' New Single Is a Surreal Trip

"Post Requisite" arrives with a collage-like and absurd video, amidst a busy year for the Los Angeles-based producer.

Over the course of a busy year that's seen the release of his debut feature film and an ambitious 3D stage show, Flying Lotus has occasionally offered updates on the status of his next studio album. But if you're sick of the wait, well, good news. Today, he's back with a woozy new single called "Post Requisite" and a strange collage of a video directed by Winston Hacking accompanying it. The track's just over two minutes long, but its a taste of the sort jazz-inflected surrealism that's become his wheelhouse over the last couple years, leaning heavily on some virtuosic bass runs that sound quite a bit like his pal and frequent collaborator Thundercat. Per a press release, he's still putting the finishing touches on his new album for Warp, but this is a nice little teaser, if it's any indication of what's to come.

Though, if you're desperately itching for another window into the man born Steve Ellison's psyche, he's already been up to plenty this year between his film Kuso, a score for a Blade Runner short film, production work on Thundercat's album, among other things. For the rest of the year, he's set to bring his 3D tour across the country. You can check those dates over at Flying Lotus' website, and watch the video for "Post Requisite" below.
