Vegas Shooter Wired $100K to Philippines Last Week

In the week before he allegedly killed at least 59 people and injured 527 others in Las Vegas, Stephen Paddock wired $100,000 to the Philippines, his girlfriend's home country, NBC News reports.

It's not clear if the money wired to an account in the country was meant for Paddock's reported girlfriend, Marilou Danley, who was in the Philippines on Sunday when the mass shooting in Vegas went down. While investigators have said they don't believe she was involved in the shooting, they plan to interview her after she touches down in the States on Wednesday, NBC reports.

Danley reportedly started dating Paddock in early 2017 and lived with him at his home in Mesquite, Nevada, about an hour outside of Las Vegas. When police found Paddock dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Hotel and Casino—from which he allegedly mounted the mass shooting—he had a piece of Danley's identification on him, according to NBC.

Paddock's brother Eric told NBC he suspected the transferred cash was meant for Danley. He said his brother could have "manipulated her so that she was far away from this and had money."

"Condemn Steve for gambling. Steve took care of the people he loved. He made me and my family wealthy," Eric Paddock said. "As he was descending into hell… he wanted to take care of her."

While the transfer of cash is just the latest detail to emerge about the man who was allegedly behind one of the worst mass shootings in modern American history, it's still unclear what his potential motive was.
