Wednesday's failed launch was the latest in a series of increasingly frequent missile and nuclear tests carried out by North Korea in flagrant violation of sanctions put in place by the United Nation. A North Korean envoy, speaking to Reuters, made it clear that the country is unfazed by such global warnings, and plans to "accelerate" nuclear and missile tests.

"North Korea fired one missile from an area near the Wonsan Air Base this morning but it's presumed to have failed," South Korea's defense ministry said in a statement. US Pacific Command, which also monitored the launch, said the missile disintegrated "within seconds of launch."
