3D-Printed Shoe Sculptures Commemorate Lost Loves

Turning broken hearts into haute heels.

Cinderella eat your heart out.

A relationship that ends not so well can leave one feeling undermined, even stepped on. As a designer, instead of letting himself remain caught under the heel of his past loves, Sebastián Errázuriz channelled their impressions into shoes. 12 captivating 3D-printed shoe sculptures, to be exact.

Working with Brazilian shoe brand Melissa, Sebastián Errázuriz presents 12 Shoes for 12 Lovers (NSFW- nudity). The sculptures, along with deeply personal and adult-appropriate photos and recollections of those 12 relationships, will be on display at Art Basel Miami December 6 through January 6.

Because of some of the explicit material and Errázuriz’s choice to share such intimate moments with members of the public, controversy and criticism might befall the project. But Errázuriz isn’t one to shy away from such things. In fact, he understands that he “exposes himself to scrutiny and judgement.” Plus, it’s not like he’s in the saint business.

On their own, each sculpture is a captivating piece, but it’s the layered context of who each one is supposed to commemorate that really sells the project—even if the nicknames tend to be a bit clichéd.

Below are the 12 shoes for 12 lovers, with their corresponding names, numbers, and personalities.
