Viennese Producer MOTSA Returns With a Bass-Fueled Breakup Song

Some of the world's most memorable music is born from lost love. For the Viennese artist, MOTSA, it was the inspiration for the fourth track off his latest EP Time.

"'Time Out' was a track I made when my last relationship ended and it was a great way of letting emotions out," the producer says. "This is not untypical of course, but I try to express myself through my music as I feel that my most 'honest' music is my best music. I guess I want to evoke a full palette of feelings."

If you've followed MOTSA's past productions you'll recognize his trademark sub-heavy low end and his affinity for throwing warped vocal effects onto the tail-end of the bass. "In general I love choppy, broken beats and vocal-cuts," he explains. "The reason why I moved from straight 4/4 to more broken drum patterns is that I felt it gave me more freedom than when I was tied to a straight beat. This doesn't mean I won't be doing more four-to-the-floor-oriented things again."

As Time has quite literally helped mend his broken heart, MOTSA promises new original music and some new directions in the near future. "I'll be doing some interesting remix material and getting over to the UK to play some debut gigs around the EP. I hope to visit places that will inspire me."

In this instance, places are perhaps safer than lovers.
