Ohio's Botched Experimental Execution, in One GIF

Our GIFmaster in residence animates this week's chilling botched execution, which relied on an experimental new drug cocktail.

Ever feel like you can't keep up with all the doom and gloom echoing around the internet? Motherboard's here to help. With GIFs. Welcome to THIS WEEK IN HELL, a feature that brings you hard-hitting animated coverage of the week's most apocalyptic events, straight from the digital pen of Jay Spahr. Dennis McGuire, a rapist and murderer, was the test subject for Ohio’s newest lethal injection concoction. The mixture of midazolam, a sedative, and hydromorphone, a derivative from morphine was a replacement for pentobarbital. Ohio ran out of pentobarbital in 2009, after the European manufacturers began to refuse to distribute to US states for lethal injection. The execution process was unusually long, taking approximately 20 minutes, 10 of which, Dennis McGuire spent gasping, choking, and snorting.
