Kansas Man Banned from Panera Bread Over Obsession with Woman’s Feet

An apparent foot fetishist in Kansas has been banned from Panera Bread restaurants after being convicted of stalking.

The man, 45-year-old Michael Matthew Montgomery, was sentenced Monday after a series of unnerving incidents that went down at the popular chain. Montgomery pled guilty to stalking a mother in the restaurant, where he acted strangely, repeatedly made comments to her about her feet, and followed her outside.

"I have spent two whole lunches staring at them," he said to the woman, according to court documents as reported by The Kansas City Star.

Prosecutors say that Montgomery harassed the victim on at least four different occasions at the same Panera restaurant over the past year. As part of his sentence, he's served 15 days in jail, and will have to spend the next year on probation.

Although sentencing was only for charges related to the stalking at Panera, police noted that they have received similar complaints from other women about the perpetrator "going back several years."

A representative for Panera told MUNCHIES, "Panera and our franchisees will always prioritize the safety of our guests and associates. In this case, our Kansas franchisee cooperated fully with the police and court system during their investigation and recent sentencing."

Surprisingly, the incident at Panera isn't the only one in recent memory of public, awkward foot attraction. Last year, a Starbucks customer detailed his odd sexual encounter with a man who became visibly aroused after seeing the bottom of his foot.

As for Montgomery, perhaps, he just should have tried eating at Subway, where he could get a foot-long sandwich. Thanks folks, I'll be here all week!
