California High School Footballer Smeared Icy-Hot on Opponent's Face During Game

A high school football player in California rubbed icy-hot on an opponent's face during the game.

I'm starting to wonder if we should stop asking, "What is going on in High School football?" whenever something shitty like this happens, and start admitting to ourselves, "Oh yeah, high school. Football." Here we have another example of a high school football player doing something especially stupid and cruel. A player from Salesian High School is accused of smearing Icy-Hot on the face of a player from La Cañada High School during an actual game. The Salesian player apparently reached underneath Angel Salazar's mask in the middle of a scrum at the end of the play and wiped the substance on his face. Salazar comes off the field looking like he was in a good bit of pain.

Here's the play where La Cañada principal Ian McFeat claims one of his students got smeared with the substance:

Icy-Hot, or an Icy-Hot-like substance, is often used in hazing rituals—usually involving scrotums or other sensitive areas—because it sucks and can be painful. It's the sort of thing you definitely don't want to get in your eyes, and one of the last things you would expect to see in the middle of a pile of football players.

McFeat said Salazar returned to the sideline covered in the stuff (clearly) and that they were releasing footage of the incident to discourage other schools out there from doing the same thing.
