Weaves are proof that weird will always succeed with enough gumption, as their great self-titled debut album was just nominated for Canada's Polaris Music Prize. Not seeking to rest on their laurels, the Toronto quartet is already releasing another album on October 6 called Wide Open. The announcement comes alongside a barnstormer of a single coyly titled "#53."

Compared to their early, loopy Pixies-inspired material, this new one is a bizarro Springsteen ripper, complete with glockenspiel riff. Where Jasmyn Burke used to use her vocals and lyrics like an abstract painter, they've now been honed into a big, cathartic shout-along chorus: "I don't wanna think about you again / I don't wanna dream about you again / I know I'm gonna cry about you again!"

Burke said in a statement that "I let out how I was feeling about a lot of things. Existing on the road, existing at home, living in a time when a lot of younger people feel helpless—it's all given me a new vigor and desire to be ferocious with our music." You can stream "#53" below and pre-order Wide Open (that Tanya Tagaq feature, woo!) here.
