Heads Up: Blackberry Messenger Might Share Your Porn Habits with Your Friends

Users at the Crackberry forums have unveiled what they're calling a dirty little flaw in the push update capabilities of the new Blackbery Z10. The newest Blackberry Messenger (BBM) build has a feature that notifies all of your BBM contacts when you're listening to a song or watching a video–be it from Youtube or Youjizz.

BBM records any usage of the phone's media player and can push these visits and downloads to all messenger contacts, much like a status update. So your grandmother might be notified that you've been listening to the new Justin Timberlake album, or she might know that you have a fetish for, uh, granny porn.

The phone's history tracking can be turned off if users go to settings and turn off the "Show What I'm Listening To." A guide is now available at the main Crackberry blog, which suggests this indeed isn't an April Fool's joke. We couldn't track down a new Blackberry at Motherboard HQ, but a Reddit thread also lacks anyone shouting "fake!"

And really, with mobile manufacturers obsessed with adding more social everything, a potentially-embarassing situation like this one shouldn't come as much of a surprise. To be fair, it does appear to be an opt-in feature, which is a good thing. If you're a Blackberry user, you might want to double-check now and confirm that your videos are safe to yourself.
