Big Sean Brings “Sunday Morning Jetpack” and “Bounce Back” to SNL

And Aziz Ansari calls Trump “the Chris Brown of politics” in his monologue.

Aziz Ansari hosted last night's SNL, the first with one-time host Donald Trump watching on beady-eyed from the White House. His monologue was brilliant, although I don't know why we expected anything else from a witty comedian who's never hosted before. "The Day after Trump's inauguration… Pretty cool to know, though, he's probably at home right now watching a brown guy make fun of him." Ansari went on to compare Trump to noted woman-beater Chris Brown. "Donald Trump is basically the Chris Brown of politics," Ansari said, "and Make America Great Again is his 'These Hoes Ain't Loyal.'"

Last night's musical guest was Big Sean, who brought with him two songs from his new album I Decided, "Bounce Back" and the previously unheard "Sunday Morning Jetpack." The former didn't connect; its energy was lost somewhere in the rainbow-colored set and Sean couldn't fully try to regather it, seemingly too aware of the studio audience. "Bounce Back" is the type of song that could work in a club, but isn't ideal for what's essentially a showcase to the nation. "Sunday Morning Jetpack" was an improvement in almost every way. A violinist riffing in the background made the setting more intriguing and Sean's bars were mercifully clearer.
