Max Scherzer Barks At Matt Williams to Leave Him in the Game, Snubs Him on Fist Bump

Max Scherzer fucking wanted it last night, and he got it.

Max Scherzer was fired up to finish the seventh inning of last night's game against the Marlins, so when it looked like Matt Williams was coming out to the mound to pull him, he began shouting at him "I want it! I fucking want it! I fucking want it!" Williams politely deferred to his ace and let Scherzer finish the inning. He did so successfully, getting Dee Gordon to ground to short stop to end the inning.

That would be it for Scherzer, and on his way back to the dugout he said something to Williams—"I told you so," maybe?—and then left his manager hanging on a fist bump. Things are going really well in Washington.

The score was tied at 2-2 at that point, and Nats actually took a one-run lead in the eighth, but coughed up a run in the ninth, forcing some more fireworks in the tenth. Jayson Werth led off the inning with a double and eventually made his way to third where he scored on a pretty shallow fly out to left field. A better play at home nails him, but J.T. Realmuto tried to dig it out and swipe tag him and the ball squirted out behind the plate, allowing Werth to crawl back and easily slap home plate.

Washington kept pace with the Mets, who beat the Yankees last night, and remain 8 games back in the division.
