Watch 43 Filmmakers Create A Collaborative Ode To Long Weekends

Story & Heart, a collaborative filmmaking community, created a hyper-relaxing video that will make you count the days until Labor Day.

The long weekend. A collaborative film crafted by 43 filmmakers. from Story & Heart on Vimeo.

There's DeNiro and Scorsese, Kurt Russell and John Carpenter, Werner Herzog and Klaus Kinski, and so on… When it comes to cinematic storytelling, the power of collaboration is vital, but given the nature of creative vision, the best teams often come from likeminded creatives working in different departments. Simply put, at the end of the day, even duos as definitive and dynamic as George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, still end up working on their own, individual projects.

But that was then; this is now: nascent filmmaking community Story & Heart is an online video licensing platform that seeks to change the ways in which filmmakers collaborate. Offering filmmakers, "A safe harbor for our captured moments and a place to see them become something more. A place to learn, collaborate, and encourage. A destination for authentic stories," they've opened the doors to collaborative filmmaking in a way that proves, once again, the age-old idiom of strength in numbers.

Seen above, The Long Weekend is the joyous result of a collaboration between 43 individual filmmakers. A free-form collection of cinematic moments, all shot over the same long weekend, the film is an ode to the tranquil spirit and general good spirits that come with a three day respite from our weekday grinds. There are shots of people camping, playing guitar, walking barefoot—your whole range of familiar relaxation tropes (minus a cold brew getting cracked open). The Endless Summer is now The Endless Long Weekend.

The Vimeo description includes this short and simple poem that sums up the video perfectly. Read the poem, watch the video, and begin counting the days until Labor Day rolls around:

A time off

But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't turn everything
All of your senses
On

A time to connect

With family
With friends
With yourself

A time for rest

And for fireworks
There is always time for fireworks.
