55 Bulgarian Artists Create an Illustrated Deck of Cards

With an ongoing Kickstarter campaign, the illustrators behind Infinite Collision hope to play their cards right.

What do a villainous monkey, two pink flamingos, a 16th century princess sheep, and female nudes have in common? They are all depicted in Infinite Collision, the first-ever set of illustrated playing cards designed by 55 independent Bulgarian artists.

The Infinite Collision cards are currently only a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the printing and production of the cards, but we think it’s a fun and ideal way to invest in Bulgarian artists. Most of the illustrators featured in the deck of cards are full-time and professional designers and artists. You'll get to know the work of Kaloian Toshev, a.k.a., MZK, an artist who sketches girls on paper and transfers them to Wacom tablet and further Photoshops his works, Vencislav Yosifov, digital painter who is also part of a Bulgarian graffiti team 140 Ideas, and Todor Hristov, one of the best working concept artists in Bulgaria.

We don’t often hear about contemporary Bulgarian design aesthetics, but the Infinite Collision team hopes that the cards reveal enough about the diversity of the featured artists. IC founder Krasi Nafarforiev tells The Creators Project, “When you hold the deck in your hands you can see the vast diversity of styles implemented in the deck. You can see concept art, pen art, 3D, typography and many more styles revealing each artists crazy imagination."

Infinite Collision doesn’t stop with the Kickstarter campaign or with the production of the playing cards, Nafarforiev hopes these projects catapult the collective into a respected and recognized design community. He says, “…actually the first Bulgarian design community which will make regular digital exhibitions in galleries around the world, promoting design and creativity from this part of the world.”

Count the first-ever set of playing cards as a collection of firsts for this group of designers. The Infinite Collision Kickstarter campaign runs through January 24th.
