Ben & Jerry's Trolls Trump, Sends Message of Love and Unity In One Perfect Ad

When it comes to comfort foods, there's really no better choice than a pint of ice cream—except maybe more than one pint of ice cream. But Ben & Jerry's is doing more than helping us de-stress with a mouthful of Empower Mint: it is also spreading a much-needed message of love and unity with its newest commercial.

The ad, called "One Sweet World," shows a society in which an angry lemon with a ridiculous combover preaches an aggressive message of hatred, causing the other lemons to harass and discriminate against everyone who doesn't look like them (apparently using an orange would've been way too obvious). But when one lemon reaches out, sharing an earbud with a sad looking cherry, it's enough to prompt others to perform similar acts of inclusion and kindness. Is it sappy? Sure. But it's also a reminder that a lot of us probably need right now.

"Here at Ben & Jerry's, we're concerned that the dominant message we see in society today is one of division," the company wrote in its YouTube description. "Whether it's televised political debates or newspaper headlines, it's sometimes easy to think the world is becoming increasingly divided. So, we've been thinking about how we can amplify a message of unity & love using the thing we know best: ice cream!"

On its website, the company has written an open letter to President-Elect Trump, challenging him to listen to the voices of all Americans, regardless of race, gender, religion or sexual orientation.

"We stand ready to defend the progress our country has made on climate change," the letter says. "We will continue to be strong advocates for racial and social justice, LGBTQ rights, gender equality, respect for religious differences and opportunity for all. We stand with women, people of color, Muslims, migrants, refugees, the LGBTQ community, the poor and others whose lives may be further compromised by the policies and rhetoric you espoused during your campaign."

Ben and Jerry promise to work with President-elect Trump, if he works towards justice and equality for all of our own little lemons and cherries. Let's just hope things eventually go as smoothly here as they did in the ad's fictional town of East Coneville.
