Leisure World's Amalgamation of Hardcore and Noise Kicks Apathy's Ass

The Orange County four-piece return with more brutalist music that you can roll around the floor to.

Leisure World are four punks from Orange County, a place that many consider to be a sunny paradise, but according to the band is actually one of mundanity and apathy.

The band are doing their bit in changing that with an interesting musical style that straddles noise rock and hardcore punk. Pissed Jeans have been mentioned and no doubt will be mentioned again when describing the band's harsh noise but Leisure World inject their own personality into the leaden weight that rises them above the pack of 'intelligent noise rock'.

Following a demo that we described as "raw and jarring", the band are back with Paper-Thin Community, a new 7" to be released on Deranged Records.

Like the demo, the new record features original artwork by Mexico City's Abraham Diaz, and more creative guitar work  that brings to mind the early AmRep feel for

Listen to the the track "Go Find Some Art" and read a chat with drummer Colin Knight, who we've been told is the least helpful member of the band.

Noisey: The song is called "Go Find Me Some Art". Is there much of an art scene in Fullerton?
Colin Knight: Brian wrote that song and I don't know what he meant by it. He wouldn't give us the lyrics or talk about it. My theory is that it is about getting twisted and Googling "Norman Rockwell prints cheap." I am not sure about a Fullerton art scene. However, I work at a restaurant that used to participate in a monthly art walk. Some guy painted this really sensual portrait of a woman in a red dress with what looked like a black cloud of smoke emanating from her ass. That painting represents the Fullerton art scene to me personally.

There's been two videos made for "Legend of the Mundane Existence", one of the kid dancing and the freaks on the street scene. Which do you prefer?
Nobody asked us if they could make those. We are very upset, please support official Leisure World branded content only.

How did you end up on Deranged?
Gordon from Deranged hit us up after seeing our demo cassette online. If I remember straight, he only checked it out because of the artwork (thank you Abraham Díaz). He ended up liking the songs and here we are now. We were originally planning on putting out the demo, but decided to record four new hits.

Your President is a dangerous man. He wants to build a wall. How far from your home would the wall be?
Over 100 miles. Come visit Orange County and let's geocache down to Tijuana.

'Paper-Thin Community' will be available April 21 through Deranged.
