Kanye West Probably Won't Be Designing Your Next IKEA Couch

IKEA may have created a Yeezy bed prototype, but you won't be struggling to build it anytime soon.

Back in March, Kanye West spent some time exploring the IKEA headquarters in southern Sweden. The rapper-slash-fashion designer-slash-cobbler was pretty impressed by the whole scene, tweeting that he was "inspired" and that his "mind was racing with the possibilities."

Some of those possibilities, apparently, involved collaborating with the furniture giant on dining sets or whatever. On Monday, West went on BBC Radio 1 to chat a bit with host Annie Mac about his dreams of houseware domination.

"I have to work with IKEA—make furniture for interior design, for architecture," he told Mac. "Yo IKEA, allow Kanye to create, allow him to make this thing because you know what, I want a bed that he makes, I want a chair that he makes."

Unfortunately, IKEA will not be allowing Kanye to create. An IKEA spokesman told CNBC that, while the company is tickled that West digs its build-it-yourself dressers, you probably won't be struggling to assemble Yeezy-designed stuff anytime soon.

"Although we are really flattered by Kanye West's high interest in IKEA and the speculation around a joint venture, we have no plans to collaborate at this point in time," the spokesperson said.

We may never get to actually see what a Kanye West bedroom set would look like in real life, but at least IKEA Australia followed through with an idea: It posted a drawing on its Facebook of an IKEA version of the giant bed from "Famous," complete with tiny screws. At least those guys have a sense of humor.
