We Waited 20 Years for 'Trainspotting 2' and All We Got Was This Lousy Teaser

Rent Boy, Sick Boy, Spud, and Begbie are all back, but we're still going to have to wait for the actual trailer.

Choose a life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a big fucking television. Choose a second skin or a rat burger or a new name for your beer. Or, if you're Danny Boyle, choose to drop the sequel to your 90s cult classic Trainspotting a whole 20 years after the movie's original 1996 release, because why not?

The long-awaited sequel officially started shooting on Monday, according to the Guardian. To celebrate this moment, Sony has generously released a teaser trailer for the film, which is really just recycled footage from the original movie with a few vague allusions to the new plot.

"It's like twenty years later, and it's the same actors," Boyle said last year at the New York Film Festival. "You know, it's twenty years later in a friendship."

Irvine Welsh, the author of the Trainspotting novel that inspired the movie, published a sequel called Porno back in 2006. The new film will be loosely based on Porno, but is being referred to as T2, like that's not already the name of a movie or anything.

The original gang is reuniting for the sequel, with Ewan McGregor reprising his lead role as Mark "Rent Boy" Renton. Setting this movie 20 years in the future begs the question of how all these characters are still alive after the monumental amounts of dope they were shooting, but we'll have to wait until 2017 to find out.

The movie is set to drop in UK theaters on January 27, 2017—hopefully the US doesn't have to wait too long after that to get its fix.
