A study from Tel Aviv University shows that lab rats with broken bones who were given cannabidiol—a marijuana compound that doesn't get you high—healed much faster than their straight-edge rat counterparts, Time of Israel reports. The study, which was published last week in theJournal of Bone and Mineral Research, also found that the rats' bones grew back stronger. Turns out we didn't need all those calcium gummies after all, though they would probably pair nicely.

This research indicates that marijuana—usually prescribed these days for people dealing with chronic pain, PTSD, and chemotherapy—could also be used to treat osteoporosis and other skeletal diseases.

And, once the weed-infused bones heal, they come back bigger and better than ever. "After being treated with CBD, the healed bone will be harder to break in the future," said Dr. Yankel Gabet of Tel Aviv's Bone Research Laboratory, one of the researchers in the study.

Miraculous bone-healing properties or no, the DEA still ranks marijuana as a Schedule I drug, meaning a drug with no medicinal value. A few lab rats with bones like steel say otherwise.
