The Editors' New Groove Vol. XVI

New music with kicks deeper than a Slavoj Zizek lecture.

The Editors' New Groove is a weekly pow-wow on the freshest new releases from THUMP's editors and regular contributors' radars.

Sir Stephen - "Holy Water" (Feat. The Golden Comanche)
Whether it's the shamanistic percussion, the plaintive cries of "holy water!," or the far-out space synths, I'm inclined to believe that Sir Stephen's latest on 100% Silk has come to deliver my soul from evil, forever and ever, amen. (Michelle Lhooq)

Boss Kite - Disko Fever
A veteran of the skweee scene creates future funk from Planet Nebulotron. Star fall sounds included. Chunky synths to make you pop and lock for days. The Boss is back. (Sorry, couldn't resist—it's been two years since his last release!) (Matt Earp)

Armin van Buuren - Ping Pong (Simon Patterson Remix)
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to attend a rave on the Death Star? Minus all the creepy Storm Troopers and grumpy ass Darth Vader, I think it would be pretty sick. Think about it: there would be tons of space to move around, trippy lights, and if you see a cute girl across the way you can just use the tractor beam to reel her in. I wonder what type of music would go off? Probably some epic trance from The Emperor, AKA Armin van Buuren. Elissa, what do you think? (David Garber)

Relative Q - Runout
First of all, why do all of David's write-ups take place in outer space? Second of all, the universe's evil empire doesn't want some murderous trance anthem, even if it does have a beat they can goose-step to. They want power. They want grit. They want a stomper, a CRUSHER, and one without those ebullient trance synths. They want rigid, teeth-gritting acid techno with kicks deeper than a Slavoj Zizek lecture. They want Broken Planet's forthcoming inaugural release. (Elissa Stolman)

Egyptian Nipples - LA Melody (Session Victim Remix)
Session Victim bringing the vibes per usual. Also, what are the defining features of Egyptian nipples? (Joel Fowler)

LIZ - Y2K
Mad Decent's latest honey-piped R&B sweetheart drops this Baltimore/Jersey club cut ahead of her forthcoming EP, out in a week. Has a water droplet ever sounded so satisfying? (Michelle Lhooq)

Organ Grinder & Le Horn - Spanner in the Works (Alden Tyrell & Gerd Remix)
Gerd and Alden Tyrell take it to the (ware)house on this remix of Organ Grinder (whose name has a weird bowel thing going on). This one's off the incredibly-titled Eurotrash EP on Holland's 4Lux. (Joel Fowler)

Gusto - Circulación
Reminds me of when Berghain was cool. JK JK JK!!!!! (Elissa Stolman)

FSQ - Zulu Congo Call (Vanilla Ace Remix)
Last might I did a few herbal calisthenic exercises and went to see the LEGO movie. It took me about half of the movie to sort through all of the clever metaphors and come to the conclusion that everyone in the film was on drugs. Oh, and also, this funky Vanilla Ace remix for FSQ is the shit. (David Garber)

Nasty Habits - Shadow Boxing (Om Unit Remix)
Hearing the original Shadow Boxing is as sacred as going to mass for anyone who ever listened to drum and bass. To say you're going to remix it in 2014 is like a young painter saying she just wants to make "a few improvements" to the Sistine Chapel. And yet, Om Unit managed to do exactly that without ruining it––a triumph in itself. (Matt Earp)
