Isn’t it wonderful that astronauts these days seem to always have a camera handy? This particular pass was taken over central Africa, from southeast Niger to the South Indian Ocean, southeast of Madagascar. Not only does it come complete with lightning flashes, but the Milky Way is visible over the horizon. If you look really closely, you can even see the Lovejoy Comet near the Milky Way, although it’s faint and disappears with the sun rise.
