Apple’s Move to iOS App for Android Bombarded With One-Star Reviews

Apple's first Android app isn't exactly winning over fans of Google's mobile operating system.

The app, Move to iOS, was released alongside iOS 9 earlier this week, and is designed to help Android users transfer their data, including contacts, email accounts, and photos, to a new iPhone. Strategically, the app makes complete sense for Apple since smartphone growth in the US has largely plateaued, meaning smartphone makers like Apple and Samsung are fighting over the same potential customers.

Just don't tell that to the folks on the Google Play app store.

"What do you think I am? Mad?" asked one reviewer named Harvey Drysdale. "Why on earth would I move from Android to Fisher Price? Sorry, I mean iOS. Sheer madness I tell you!"

"Do not install!" shouted another, Ben Bartlett. "Unless you want a lobotomy," he then clarified.

It goes on like that, for review after review after review.

As of this morning, the app has a two stars (out of five) based on more than 20,000 ratings. Reviewers who actually took the time to test the app have noted that it does work as advertised, reporting no major issues in the transfer process. That shouldn't be surprising, as the app appears to be based on an established third-party data-transfer app called Copy My Data from a company named Media Mushroom.

Apple's next Android app is expected to be Apple Music, which the company says will be released this fall.
