The Large Hadron Collider In All Its Sublime Glory [Gallery]

Last week the physics world, and the rest of us, celebrated the discovery of the Higgs boson particle. Or if not the Higgs, then possibly an impostor masquerading as the Higgs. But even if it turns out that it wasn’t the Higgs, the machine that discovered it definitely does exist.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN could be claimed to be one of the most beautiful machines on the planet, and this beauty is acknowledged and celebrated in a series of photos that show its construction on the Atlantic’s In Focus photoblog in a series called The Fantastic Machine That Found the Higgs Boson.

This magical piece of equipment allowed us to explore the subatomic world like never before, and even if finding the Higgs means this giant particle accelerator is not quite as relevant as it once was, it’s still a wonderful piece of equipment.
