T-Pain Allegedly Never Got Paid for Some of His Classic Lil Wayne Features

You could argue that Lil Wayne's mainstream breakthrough in the late 00s is partially thanks to T-Pain; not only did the latter feature on big, iconic hits like "Got Money" but Wayne also borrowed heavily from T-Pain's AutoTune crooning on "Lollipop" and his own features (remember Kevin Rudolf?). Now, it seems that the exuberant T-Wayne legacy is in tatters. As TMZ reports, T-Pain's label Nappy Boy has sued Cash Money Records for more than $500,000 in unpaid royalties. The disputes stem from production credits on "Got Money" for T-Pain, and "How to Love," which Nappy Boy says was co-produced by signee Young Fyre. Both of these songs charted within the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.

This news is not especially surprising, as Cash Money's financial and legal issues with Wayne's Young Money imprint have been well-documented over the past few years. Wayne claimed in 2014 that the still-ongoing delayed release of Tha Carter V was due to Cash Money founder Birdman holding him as a "creative prisoner." Wayne sued the label (and thusly his mentor) for $51 million in 2015. Fellow Young Money artist Drake also expressed displeasure with Birdman around the same time, with his associate Jas Prince launching his own lawsuit.
