The daily struggle undocumented residents go through is alive and well.

Times have been consistently tough for undocumented residents in the United States. By its end, the Obama administration removed at least 3 million undocumented residents through immigration orders, more than any other president in history. In the first 100 days since President Trump signed a pair of executive orders tightening border security and restricting sanctuary cities, ICE has arrested more than 41,300 undocumented residents, a 38 percent increase from the same time period in 2016.

There's a lot to be concerned about when it comes to President Trump's controversial campaign promises, but one of his administration's costly operation to deport immigrants living in the United States illegally. In response, a strong contingent of California state legislators drafted a "sanctuary state" bill, which would expand sanctuary city policies and effectively bar law enforcement agencies from using their resources to help federal immigration enforcement. Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León, who authored the bill, told CNN after the legislation was passed by the state Senate in April, that SB 54 is "a rejection of President Trump's false and cynical portrayal of undocumented residents as a lawless community."

Now that the bill is headed to the California state Assembly, it's easy to get caught up in the legislative side of a story that is inherently human. So VICE Impact made Solidarity for Sanctuary to put faces to this complicated issue.

Watch the film above, but be sure to take action on the bill specifically by supporting front- line organizations via these ACLU tips or sign a national petition in support of SB 54.
