Banoffee's "Let's Go to the Beach" is the Jam

Can it still be summer please? Thanks!

This past August Aussie artist Banoffee released an eponymous debut EP. It was very good mini-collection, but weirdly "Let's Go to the Beach"—which is a total banger and one of the EP's standout tracks—was never put on Soundcloud. Does it even exist if it's not on Soundcloud? Well here it is: six weeks after the fact and still sounding super fine. Syncopated girlish exhalations and clattering akin to stampede of My Little Ponies cantering across an iron bridge combine with Banoffee's exuberant melodies, and then at 1.53 shit really kicks off—skippy vocals rounds and club-destined, bassy beats, cast a euphoric spell.

As for the lyrics, from what we can glean it's about a boy, who is a friend, who also happens to have "grabby hands." Perhaps Banoffee is exploring that tricksy ground between girls and guys when one of you wants to be a fuck buddy and the other is finding it somewhat more problematic than the black and white starkness of carnal cravings. Once you cross the line, it's all shades of grey, which of course makes for best kind of confusion, and the best kind of pop music.
