Have Some Heartbreak with Your Coffee: Here's Sharon Van Etten's New Song "Just Like Blood"

She's got a new EP coming out and this is a song for the golden hour of our romantic discontent.

You know what's funny? Van Etten could be singing about flowers and Care Bears and I'd probably still think she'd written a paean to her 23-year-old lover who met an untimely, violent end, plunging off the cliffs of Big Sur, as the sun set. That's just the kind of emotion her gorgeously world-weary tones evoke. Van Etten has a new EP coming out on 6.9 called I Don't Want Let You Down via [Jagajaguwar](http://: smarturl.it/sveepscd?iQid=sc), and this new tune, "Just Like Blood," is a gold-spun teaser of a tune from said EP. As it goes, she is not singing about Cabbage Patch Kids. Shit's a lot more existential than that. She's asking big questions and oof! those horns, that piano line, the quivering organ—is it an organ?—all collude to create a plushly melancholic, sexually intimate song for the golden hour of our romantic discontent. Like a honey dipped Cat Power, Van Etten is a wonder in the ears.
