Brain Melters - I Just Found This Old Recording Of Fat Tony & Kool AD Freestyling Over A Blunt

It rules and I need to share it with the world.

It's amazing to me how buzzed-out bands can be all famous on the internet and still play shows to empty rooms. Case in point: a show last year at the Silent Barn, a Queens venue I help run. My roommate booked Kool AD, from the mega-Internet-icized Das Racist, along with Houston rapper Fat Tony for a weeknight show. Dunno if it didn't get promoted right or if individual members of DR don't have that kinda name recognition, but it was only twenty-odd people in the room. And for that reason that night was totally amazing. Shit, I love totally empty shows.

When it came time for Kool AD to go on, we couldn't find him. Turned out him and Fat Tony were next door at the Dominican bar (which we always suspected was a brothel) ordering a full meal. That was weird, because the place definitely wasn’t a restaurant. When he’d finished eating and played his set, Kool AD took out a carton of milk and started pouring it into Dixie cups. Then he took out some Elmers glue and various cleaning fluids, mixed those in the cups and started to pass them out for people to drink. Some people who just walked into the room accepted the "milk" and drank it. Then Kool AD just started repeating the line "Put your booty in the air…put your booty in the air like an airplane…" over and over and grinded his ass up on the huge empty space around him. Fat Tony was super psyched and dancing in front with a couple of other people.\

After Fat Tony finished up, somebody rolled a huge blunt and a crowd of people gathered in the hallway. Fat Tony and Kool AD started freestyling the most ridiculous jokes. My friend Sandy actually recorded a few minutes of it on a handheld, which you NEED to listen to below. A lot of the conversation wasn't recorded and I can't remember all of it, but I do remember Kool AD talking about how him and his friends used to rap the names of dinosaurs at each other a lot.

And for good measure, here's a Fat Tony music video, since not as many folks are familiar with this awesome rapper as with Das Racist.
